ABSTRACT

Summary and Conclusions:

  1. The effects of a new tranquilizing drug Sparine (Promazine) on forty-six chronic schizophrenic patients are described.
  2. This drug has been reported to be particularly useful in the treatment of acute agitation and confusion, acute alcoholism and drug addiction.
  3. Sparine was found to be of no value in the treatment of this series of chronic schizophrenic patients. Thirteen per cent. of the patients benefited to a limited extent from the drug, 11 per cent. became worse and 76 per cent. showed no change.
