ABSTRACT
A controlled double-blind trial of Nialamide has been carried out in 28 depressed subjects. Seven patients showed improvement and in 4 of these the improvement was attributed to the drug. In these 4 patients environmental precipitating factors were inconspicuous.
In the dosage used, no clinical toxic effects were observed and only one patient showed any significant rise in transaminase levels. In this respect the drug appears to be appreciably safer than iproniazid in its short term toxic effects.
