The Diagnosis of Schizophrenia by Scottish Psychiatrists

Ninety-five Scottish psychiatrists answered a questionnaire about their methods of diagnosing schizophrenia.

Differences were found, particularly between Senior Registrars and older Consultants which largely reflect choice of text-book.

Certain difficulties are semantic and the need for an agreed operational definition of each term used to describe schizophrenic symptomatology is stressed.
