This paper reports a double-blind cross-over trial comparing the efficacy of opipramol and chlordiazepoxide in the treatment of patients suffering from non-psychotic psychiatric conditions characterized or significantly accompanied by anxiety features.

The results are evaluated in two different ways. Actual change (improvement and deterioration) as recorded is expressed as percentage of possible change. Secondly, changes are calculated in terms of absolute and relative differences of means.

Both methods of evaluation suggest that, in the dosages used, both drugs are of equal efficacy in the treatment of the described conditions.
