ALEC COPPEN M.D., D.P.M.1 and MARYSE METCALFE Dip. Psych.1

1 Medical Research Council Neuropsychiatric Research Unit, West Park Hospital, Epsom, Surrey

The stability of the M.P.I. was investigated in patients before and after recovery from a depressive illness. The mean scores on Neuroticism showed a significant decrease and the mean scores on Extraversion a significant increase when the two occasions were compared. The test-retest correlation was 0.62 for Neuroticism and 0.79 for Extraversion.

The mean scores of these depressed patients after recovery were similar to those obtained from normal subjects.
