An account is given of the use of classical (Pavlovian) conditioning in the treatment of hysterical retention of urine.
The psychopathology of the development of the symptom is discussed and a theoretical model for the establishment of third order conditioning is outlined.
Should relapse occur retraining according to the original programme is a feasible proposition.
