1. Three weeks' treatment of depressive psychosis with imipramine and trimipramine showed a significant difference (p=<0.05) in favour of trimipramine for complete recovery from depression, for resolution of anxiety and for improvement of insomnia.
2. No significant difference in the latency interval was found between the two drugs.
3. Trimipramine produced slightly more side-effects, particularly drowsiness. Only one patient had to be withdrawn from the trial, because she developed glaucoma when on trimipramine; she had been suffering from iridocyclitis before commencement of the trial.
