The establishment and mode of functioning of a day hospital for psychogeriatric patients is described with special reference to a new day hospital at Severalls Hospital, Colchester, Essex. Emphasis is placed on the important role of the day care facilities, not only for making the best use of the few available beds, under the present increasing demand for in-patient care, but also in keeping the elderly patients in the community.
