On the whole, family doctors, gynaecologists and psychiatrists in the North East of Scotland are liberal in outlook on this problem. One hears of the envy of family doctors in other areas who cannot find a gynaecologist to perform the operation. The family doctor is much closer to the individual woman in her family setting than the specialist in hospital and learns at first hand the reality of environmental factors in disease. The training of medical students is being reorientated to give this its proper emphasis. Medical education is slowly turning away from preoccupation with diagnosis and cure of established disease entities and concerning itself more with the prevention of ill-health and the promotion of good health.
