5HT was measured in hind-brains obtained from depressed, probably depressed and other individuals who had committed suicide, and from control individuals who died by other means. The levels found in the depressed and probably depressed groups were significantly lower than those of the control subjects. The limitations of this type of investigation and the possible implications of the findings are discussed.
