A double blind multiple cross-over trial with a single anxious neurotic patient is described. Four self-rating scales, which had been found to discriminate effectively between drugs in previous drug trials, were compared. The multiple cross-over method yields more information about each patient than a simple cross-over trial and is likely to have a number of advantages in drug research in psychiatry.
