1. The effects of positive and negative polarizing currents described by Lippold and Redfearn (1964) were tested on six normal subjects in a double blind experiment.
2. In addition to clinical observation a number of objective measures were used to assess mood and alertness.
3. As the control and current sessions could not be distinguished at statistically significant levels, the reported effects of polarizing current could not be confirmed.
