The Prognosis of Alcohol Addicts Treated by a Specialized Unit

BRUCE RITSON M.D., D.P.M.1

1 Director of the Regional Addiction Centre, Mapperley Hospital, Nottingham.

A consecutive series of 100 alcoholics referred to a specialized unit were described. Half were selected for admission, while the remainder obtained out-patient treatment from the start. At follow-up six months and one year later, approximately half were found to be abstinent and there was no significant difference in prognosis between the two groups. Factors significantly related to treatment response were examined for each group.
