An investigation of 373 schoolchildren in Ethiopia revealed that 37 per cent. came from broken homes. In more than half of these cases the disturbance of family life occurred before the age of five. Among 229 children attending a Mission school, 26 showed behavioural abnormalities. Only 35 per cent. of these came from broken homes, and a similar percentage resided away from home during the semester. Coming from a broken home or residing away from home did not appear to affect performance at school in a negative way.
