EEGs in Chronic Schizophrenia

M. H. ABENSON M.B., Ch.B., D.P.M.1

1 Senior Registrar, Sefton General Hospital, Liverpool; Consultant Psychiatrist, Kaplan Hospital, Rehovoth, Israel

The EEGs of 210 chronic schizophrenics and 100 normal controls were compared. The schizophrenic EEG suggested instability. It is suggested that the excess of abnormal records (p<.01) in the schizophrenic group indicates a brain disorder possibly generalized or in the temporal regions. No significant clinico-pathological relationships were shown despite a refinement of clinical method.
