Comparing the Classification of Subjects by Two Independent Judges

A. E. MAXWELL M.A., M.Ed, Ph.D.1

1 Professor of Psychological Statistics, Institute of Psychiatry, University of London

A test is described for comparing the lateral distributions in square contingency tables obtained when a sample of subjects is classified into k categories (k>2) independently by two judges or agents. The test is supplemented by an extension of McNemar's test for correlated proportions in a fourfold table. This extension provides a check on the symmetry of misclassifications.
