A Case of Schizosis with Dual Personality

From Psychiatric Unit, Stobhill Hospital, Glasgow

ABSTRACT

A case of dual personality with schizophrenic characters is presented. The following features are discussed:

1. The fugue state in its relation to hysteria, schizophrenia, and suicide.
   
2. The diagnostic significance of depersonalization.
   
3. Claude's concept of the "schizosis" as a group intermediate between neuroses and psychoses.
   
4. The differential characteristics of the various personalities as shown in the patient's behaviour and writings. Hypnosis was used as an aid to diagnosis and therapy.
