The Effect of Chlorpromazine (“Largactil”) on Glucose Tolerance
F. B. E. Charatan, N. G. Bartlett

Summary

In a group of 11 schizophrenic patients, intravenous chlorpromazine was shown to delay significantly the expected fall in blood glucose after the ingestion of 50 gm. glucose by mouth.

This effect is considered to be due to either a depressant effect of chlorpromazine on liver function,or alternatively to increased secretion of glucocorticoids from stimulation of the adrenal cortex.
